Which Marketing Gurus Can You Really Trust
When I read this post in a newsletter from Michael Campbell I wanted
very much to share it with all of you. He told me that I could go
ahead and share it with you here on the KEI Observation Deck.
Best wishes..
John Alexander
------------------------------------------
Which Marketing Gurus Can You Really Trust
By Michael Campbell
Question: I was thinking of getting the "brand name course"
from "brand name guru." Do you think it's a good idea?
Answer: I get this question in one form or another, almost
every single day. I'll tell you a little secret.
I was listening to a podcast the other day. It was an
interview with a ghostwriter. She has written dozens of
PDFs and How To Guides for several "big name" marketers.
It sounded like a who's who of the online marketing world.
What's scary, is that she admitted "not fully understanding"
what she was writing about. The marketers - who didn't
know any better - slapped their names on the finished work
and sold it to the masses. No wonder there's so much
confusion out there!
So the next time you're tempted to buy something, realize
that the guru "who wrote it" may not have had any part in
the project, other than to glue their label on it. It's very
possible that the person who wrote the ebook has only
5-10% more knowledge than you do.
The first thing I suggest you do, is to ask yourself a
couple of questions. Do you trust the person that's trying
to sell you the course? Do they have a solid reputation?
Do they use the product themselves. Are they a member
of the private site? If the answer to all the above is yes,
then it may be a good course.
But first email the proprietor and see if you get an
answer back. Ask them point blank if they wrote the
material, or if it was done by a ghostwriter. If they hem
or haw, hide from you, or don't give you an honest answer
straight away, don't buy it.
And finally, the most important question. Can you apply
this course immediately to your existing business model?
If not, resist the temptation to buy it. It's just new and
shiny and full of promises for a glimmering moment. Just
shake it off and maintain your focus.
Every time you switch business models you lose momentum.
If you stop applying power to your goal and keep trying for
"quick hits" you'll never build a successful, sustainable
business model.
So look deep in your heart and ask yourself, can this new
thing add to your existing momentum - not start it - but
propel you further on your chosen path. If yes, then invest
in the course, private site, software, to add more thrust, so
you can escape the gravity of mediocrity and achieve the
stratosphere of excellence where only the best can survive.

Pet related niche phrases that tell a story
Welcome to the KEI Observation Deck.
We're back to look at a few random high KEI phrases based on the data in Wordtracker's member area.
If you have a pet related Web site, it's interesting to note the recent searches (with fair to above average KEI values) that tell a story about what the searcher's problem or challenge may be.
For today, we'll have a quick exploratory look at folks that are search on Google for specific questions related to their dog.
Get ready....here we go...(not too surprising)
"Best Time to Neuter Dog" KEI 261.3 3 competing
"When Is the Best Time to Spay a Dog" KEI 169.0 4 competing
"my dog freaks out at the sounds of fireworks"KEI 3026.0 5 competing
"pet gear dog strollers" KEI 860.0 9 competing
"memorial dog ornaments" KEI 450.0 2 competing
"Curing congestion in dogs" KEI 338.0 2 competing
"how to tell if a dog has a fever" KEI 266.0 6 competing
"how to start training a dog for agility" KEI 145.8 5 competing
"apricot poodle pups" KEI 206.0 7 competing
"Toy poodles sale" KEI 324.9 10 competing
"poodle mixed pup" KEI 784.0 10 competing
What are some of the more popular breeds of dogs and searches that have easy "windows of opportunity" for optimization.
"Pictures Of Wire Haired Fox Terrier" KEI 200.0 8 competing
"fully trained labrador retriever for sale" KEI 256.0 1 competing
"Pictures Of Welsh Terriers" KEI 1473.0 6 competing
When you begin researching specific dog breeds you can find some interesting trends. Not always high KEI but still plenty of great easy long tailed (forgive the pun) trends.
Have fun and drop by again soon!

Keyword forensics observations around "support"
Hi and Welcome to the KEI Observation Deck.
Today I thought it might be fun to dip into Wordtracker for a few seconds just to randomly obvserve some recent audience search
behavior around the term "support."
The term "support" could be used in phrase clusters as a "device" or it could be used in context of a "support department."
Let's dive in and see if we can see any telling keyword phrases with high KEI (or Keyword Effectiveness Index) opportunities.
Here we go then....
"divorce support group directory" KEI 225.0
"pediatric on-call support" KEI 225.0
"toddler car seat neck support" KEI 294.0 (only 6 competing)
"video card shader support" KEI 324.0
"ergonomic computer wrist support" KEI 462.0 (only 4 competing)
"heated shoulder support" KEI 576.0 (only 1 competing)
"forex trading price action support and resistance" KEI 8712.0
There's loads more in there if you know how to bring it to the top.
Okay, some keyword research tips for you.....
The reason I say "keyword research" is because that is what people call it. But what really matters is learning to look beyond the hunt for keywords. We must realize that people are using the Internet as a tool for research based on the common conditions in their lives.
Of course we all need good keyword phrases in our optimization work, but what I am hinting at here is to look beyond the keyword hunt.
Look for phrases that have a story to tell or a trend to reveal.
But how can you find better keyword phrases?
Did you know that we often communicate differently when we speak to each other, than when we are writing an article or creating content.
Some of the simplest, plain, every day (even boring little phrases) and words we use when we dialog with each other, can open up amazing new possibilities for traffic.
Pay attention when your customers are talking to you and consider exactly, the words they use to speak to you. Try using some of those words as single "root" words to explore search behavior.
***It'll take you time to catch on to this tip because our brains our automatically attracted to the words we "think" sound important and we cannot see how some little acronym or boring sounding expression could ever help reveal anything. Don't miss the boat.
Read this article for more tips on your approach...

Another look at keyword phrases relating to "coupons."
Welcome to the KEI Obsevation Deck.
Does your Web site offer your customers coupons of any kind?
What type of "coupons" are readers searching for?
First a few lower KEI random observations and then some higher ones.
"pizza hut coupons" KEI 00.2.5 42,000 competing
"Papa Johns Coupons" KEI 004.4 7,040 compete
"petsmart printable coupon" KEI 7.19 552 compete
Nothing to exciting....
Okay an now let's grab some with a little higher KEI and lower
compete numbers from the Google search engine within the last 90 days....
"sites on fast food coupons" KEI 256.0 4 competing pages
"bowling concepts coupon" KEI 400.0 1 competing
"free online wheaties vitamins coupon KEI 576.0 1 competing
"Harry David Coupons" KEI 8,410.0 10 competing
Everyone loves coupons as it seems and there is a lot more than these to discover in Wordtracker, but I hope you enjoyed a few random observations.
If there is anything that people love more than a discount or a bargain, it something that is completely free. I've just posted a Squidoo lens linking to a load of cool free stuff.
Take a peek at some FREE Web based tools and other stuff right here.
It is not all SEO related but there are a few interesting things that are online these days for free.
More keyword observations soon.

Do you sell dolls? Let's look at a few keywords.
Just a few quick keyword observations to reflect what people are searching for in "doll" related searches within the last 90 days:
"dollhouse horse wagons" KEI: 225.0
"doll chef hats" KEI: 298.0
"wholesale and retail doll supplies" KEI 2,197.0
"dollhouse furniture and playground" KEI: 3,969.0
If you want to dig deeper in Wordtracker, you might want try a few
synonyms or related terms around figurines etc.
Many Wordtracker users start out with the idea of trying to dictate to the tool, which keywords that they **THINK** are most relevant. But the truth is every time we "guess at the terms" that seem to make the most sense, we are not really letting Wordtracker reveal its best data.
